Solemnity of Corpus Christi

Photos: Prepping for Corpus Christi Sunday and Procession

Posted by admin on 06/01/2018

The parishioners of Corpus Christi have been hard at work this week preparing for Corpus Christi Sunday and the procession. Please join us this Sunday.

This is one of the largest religious events on the streets of Buffalo, the Feast of Corpus Christi. We will walk with Jesus beginning at 1 p.m. from St. Stanislaus Church, and proceed to 4 outdoor altars, ending at Corpus Christi Church with Mass. Fr. Michał has picked up the new monstrance for the procession, and a large group of musicians is being organized to join us this year.

Join the Saint Stanislaus and Corpus Christi worship communities on Sunday June 7 as Catholics from around WNY will come together to display their faith on the historic Polish East Side in commemoration of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.

The observance will begin at 2:00p.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, located on Peckham St. near Fillmore in Buffalo, for a traditional outdoor procession with the Most Blessed Sacrament. The procession will pause for devotions at four outside altars created specifically for this feast. The procession will end at Corpus Christi Church, located at 199 Clark Street, for Holy Mass at 3 p.m.

A reception with light refreshments will follow in the St. Kolbe Center across from Corpus Christi Church. All are welcome to attend.

The Feast of Corpus Christi, which dates to the 13th Century, celebrates the institution of the Holy Mass and professes the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. This ceremony has long been an important day in Polish culture that is observed with a public display of faith. Especially in recent years, hundreds of Western New Yorkers have commemorated this important event by participating in the church procession.
