Festival to Feature Special Polka Mass, Pierogi Contest, Polish Food, Music and more

The 34th annual Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, New York will take place on August 16, 17 and 18.  The word Dożynki means a celebration of harvest and is a centuries old tradition by farmers in rural Poland.

This is the largest festival in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia. The weekend long celebration will include traditional Polish food, music and drink.  Festival highlights include the 6th Annual Buffalo’s Best Pierogi Contest on Saturday, August 17 at 4:30pm, heritage vendors, and the Harvest Mass on Sunday, August 19 at 11:30am featuring polka and folk music.

The festival opens on Friday, August 16 at 5:30 and closes on Sunday, August 18 at 7pm.

Corpus Christi Church was founded in 1898 and is located in the heart of East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia.

Volunteer for Dożynki

Corpus Christi’s 34th Annual Dożynki Festival will be taking place August 16th through August 18th. We need help with set up, tear down, as well as throughout the weekend doing various things, like working the food area, bartending, selling tickets, and running food from the kitchen outside to the Festival. If anyone would like to help, please let us know, we need all the help we can get! This is also a good opportunity for any high school aged kids to get volunteer service hours in-Catholic High Schools especially, as many kids need to get Christian Service Hours in their first year of school! Corpus Christi’s 2013 Miss Dożynki Essay Contest

You can be Miss Dożynki @ Corpus Christi Church’s annual Polish Harvest Festival…no age restrictions.

From Corpus Christi’s Dożynki Committee:

The Dożynki Committee will be accepting applications from those who are interested in becoming this year’s Miss Dożynki.

All interested individuals should submit an essay not to exceed 500 words explaining why their Polish heritage is important to them, why they would like to be Miss Dożynki, and why they would be the best candidate.

Please return all essays to the church rectory by dropping off or by mail to Corpus Christi Church – Attn: Miss Dożynki – 199 Clark Street – Buffalo, NY 14212 or email them to jhutzol@roadrunner.com, by July 8th.
