Corpus Christi Church Announces its 11th Annual Buffalo’s Best Pierogi Contest

Corpus Christi Church is once again looking for Buffalo’s best pierogi. This historic east side church is hosting its 11th annual Buffalo’s Best Pierogi contest on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 3:00 pm. Its is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.

The contest is the centerpiece of Corpus Christi’s Corpus Christi’s 39th annual Dożynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival on Friday and Saturday, September 14, 15 and 16. Christopher Byrd, the contest organizer, says the event “captures Buffalo’s love for food while celebrating our city’s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next. The contest draws people from all over Western New York. Buffalonians have incredible passion for their homemade pierogi.”

People who wish to enter the contest can online by visiting the church’s website www.CorpusChristiBuffalo.org or by contacting the rectory at (716) 896-1050. The deadline for entries is Saturday, September 8, 2018.

A group of celebrity judges will determine the winners for the contest. Winners in each category will walk away with the title of Buffalo’s Best Pierogi Maker and awarded the golden rolling pin.

Corpus Christi Church was founded in 1898 and is located in the heart of East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia at 199 Clark Street. It is on the state and national lists of historic sites.

Corpus Christi Church is once again looking for Buffalo’s best pierogi. This historic east side church is hosting its eighth annual Buffalo’s Best Pierogi contest on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 4:30p.m. The contest is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.

The contest is the centerpiece of Corpus Christi’s 36th annual Dożynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20. Christopher Byrd, the contest organizer, says the event “Captures Buffalo’s love for food and while celebrating our city’s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next. The contest draws people from all of Western New York. Buffalonians have incredible passion for their pierogi.”

People who wish to enter the contest can online by visiting the church’s website www.CorpusChristiBuffalo.org or by contacting the rectory at (716) 896-1050. The deadline for entries is Monday, September 14, 2015.

Applicants will be judged in one of four following categories:

Homemade Traditional – boiled or fried pierogi filled with cheese, cheese/potato or kapusta (pickled or fresh cabbage) with or without mushrooms, carrots, etc.

Homemade Non-Traditional – open to entrant’s creativity, keeping in mind that a pierog is a stuffed pocket of dough.

Commercial – open to any business using a traditional recipe.

Dessert – pierogi made as a desert open to entrant’s creativity.
