Pope Francis announced on December 8th, 2020 that this year would be the year of Saint Joseph. But for me it began five years earlier; when I came to Buffalo. After a terrific rain storm, poor drainage and years of neglect, I found myself wondering in the flooded nooks and crannies of the Church basement, trying to salvage any items of value. I didn’t find diamonds, gold or a purse full of money. I came across something even more valuable! In that cellar under of the church, among the heaps of dusty objects piled up in disorder on top of a table, lay a rolled up cloth. I unrolled it carefully to find a very damaged painting of Saint Joseph. It was almost captivating. I knew this image had to be saved from any further destruction. It is something important and touching for us to announce that two years after the start of conservation work; the painting is fully restored. Saint Joseph is no longer in the basement but is returned to our temple. We express our deepest gratitude to all the donors for their support of this this project. We invite all to visit our Saint Joseph.
