Statement by TOB Institute President Dr. Christopher West on SCOTUS Decision on Roe v. Wade

Posted by admin on 07/04/2022

The following is a statement from Theology of the Body President Dr. Christopher West regarding decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade:

Today, with awe at the events unfolding on this Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Theology of the Body Institute celebrates the courageous decision of the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold in law the inviolable dignity of human life in the womb. While this just ruling certainly marks a victory for life, let us recall these important words of Saint John Paul II: “It is an illusion to think we can build a true culture of human life if we do not … accept and experience sexuality and love and the whole of life according to their true meaning and their close inter-connection” (The Gospel of Life 97). May this historic day mark our renewed commitment to helping men and women embrace the true beauty and splendor of the divine plan for creating us male and female and calling the two to become “one flesh.” This is a “great mystery,” as Saint Paul proclaims, and it takes us to the heart of God’s plan to become one-in-the-flesh with us (see Eph 5:31-32).

Christopher West, Th.D.

President, Theology of the Body Institute

Leaving Buffalo

Posted by admin on 01/31/2022

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I have had the joy of being in Buffalo (Corpus Christi Church and St. Stanislaus Church ) for 6 years. Fr. Jan has been here 2 years. Together, we have come to know you and we are humbled to have taught you more about your faith and how to know and love the Lord.

We have witnessed an increase in membership. We have seen the growth of the Sacraments. Baptisms, Holy Communion, Confirmation, weddings and anniversaries, anointing of the sick, and finally honoring loved ones at funeral Masses. We have created and supported various programs and fundraisers. Our membership has grown!

Parishes has grown into a beautiful family. You have become part of our life and family. We are privileged to serve in these historic churches and be part of the Western New York community. We have done our best to welcome all and serve you with humble hearts.

As a Pauline Father, we take a vow of obedience. We must always commit to serving the Lord and obeying His will for us. Through prayer and community life, we grow more deeply in our relationship with the Lord. Sadly, the time has unexpectedly come. We are both being reassigned to other parishes. I will be going to St. Stanislaus Parish in Manhattan, and Fr. Jan will return to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Doylestown, PA.

We will be leaving in February. Two priests will be assigned to carry on the spiritual and pastoral works needed for this faith community.

We ask for your prayers, understanding, and support. The work which has been started will continue. I encourage each of you to continue growing in your relationship with the Lord. Please remain as a volunteer. The church needs you to grow. From the tiny babies, to the single people, families, and elderly, each of you have blessed us and we know God will continue to bless Corpus Christi Church and St. Stanislaus Church into the future.

We would like to assure you of praying for your good heart in front of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

Fr. Michal Czyzewski and Fr. Jan Kolmaga

Corpus Christi Church will host a concert series called In the Light beginning in September 2013 and running through the spring of 2014.  The series, developed by Director of Music István Hernek, will showcase the historic church’s artistic beauty and its dynamic environment for organ, woodwinds & voice.

Rev. Mariusz Dymek, pastor of the church, chose a quote by Martin Luther in describing the concert series: “Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.”

Rev. Dymek added, “There are places in which our hearts are filled with joy and where people forget about their daily struggles. One of those places is Corpus Christi Church. Here everything is created to raise the soul to God, to make a difference in life. Our church is a great place for beautiful art, beautiful music and people.”

The series starts on September 22, 2013 at 1:00pm with a piano and organ recital by István Hernek featuring traditional Polish hymns as well as his own compositions. English translations of the Polish hymns will be available during the recital.

Other concerts part of the In the Light series are:

October 20, 4:00pm – Vocalis

November 17, 5:00pm – Canisius College Chorale

December 15, 2:00pm – Corpus Christi Church Christmas Concert

January 5, 2014 – Tenth Anniversary of Pauline Order at Corpus Christi featuring flutist Emma Resmini

February 9 – The Kindred Concert

István Hernek is a virtuoso pianist, organist, composer, educator, multi-instrumentalist, and has been the Director of Music at Corpus Christi since 2012.   More about Mr. Hernek can be found at his website, IstvanHernek.com.

Corpus Christi Church is located at 199 Clark St. in Buffalo, one block east of the Broadway Market in the heart of East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia.  Founded in 1898, the church is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.  For a schedule of services and upcoming parish events, visit CorpusChristiBuffalo.org
