Infant of Prague Statue Re-dedication at May 8th Mass
The Infant Jesus of Prague is a 16th-century wax-coated wooden statue of the Child Jesus holding a globus cruciger of Spanish origin, now located in the Discalced Carmelite Church of Our Lady of Victories in Malá Strana, Prague, Czech Republic. The figure of the Child Jesus, as a tender infant, brings home to us God’s closeness and his love. By depicting Jesus as a child, the tradition of the Infant of Prague also emphasizes His humanity, and how we are children of God because of the salvation that He brings us. Tradition says the more you honor the Infant the more He will bless you. Now, we have almost become desensitized to the true meaning of this symbol and conjure up the memory of the ’60’s and ‘70’s when almost every car had a magnetized statue attached to the dashboard. (We could use some of that now). Most Polish homes still have one, sitting quietly in a corner.
Corpus Christi would like to announce the restoration of this image. It is the same stand and statue but cleaned, sealed, polished, painted and freshly guilded with gold. The work was arranged by The Friends of Corpus Christi, through an endowment by a local family. It is the first phase of several projects covered by this donation.
All are invited to Sunday Mass, May 8th at 9:30 AM on Mother’s Day, when the statue will be rededicated at Corpus Christi Church.
Corpus Christi’s 2021 Christmas Fundraiser
Each Christmas Season at Corpus Christi Church, we reflect on some of the accomplishments of our faith community as well as projects completed in 2021 and which enhanced our worship space or helped to maintain our buildings and grounds. We have been blessed with wonderful volunteers, young, new faith-filled families, new babies to baptize, a peaceful garden and grotto to pray and socialize in, and steeples with repaired clocks reminding us to come and visit. The large framed painting of St. Joseph that sits at the front of the church, serves as a model of Fatherhood for all. The painting helped the congregation to celebrate the Year of St. Joseph in a truly special way!
For 100 years, the Franciscan Fathers lead Corpus Christi and oversaw all the buildings. Today, the Pauline Fathers carry on the legacy. They have a responsibility to maintain all the buildings as well. Our Christmas Fundraiser for 2022 is focused on the Kolbe Center across the street from the church on Clark Street. The building is part of the Historic Complex of Corpus Christi. Historically, it was a gathering and meeting center, home to Father Justin’s Rosary Hour, and Kindergarten which was taught by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. Today, the Kolbe Center once again serves as our social gathering and meeting center.
The present windows have been in place for over 75 years and are no longer efficient. Our goal is to replace the lower five windows in both sides. All donations are greatly appreciated! As always, we will continue to offer prayers of thanksgiving for remembering us this Christmas. St. Michael the Archangel is special to our community. For a donation of $20, we would like to bless you with a 5 inch red candle imprinted with the picture of Corpus Christi and St. Michael. A kind donor has covered the cost of shipping. Donations and candles will be available in church throughout the Advent and Christmas Seasons. You may also call or visit the Rectory during Office Hours, 716.896.1050.
St. Michael the Archangel -pray for us! God bless you for keeping us warm and safe this Christmas!
