Corpus Christi Church is once again looking for Buffalo’s best pierogi. This historic East Side church is hosting its 13th Buffalo’s Best Pierogi contest on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 2:30 pm. It is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.
The contest is the centerpiece of Corpus Christi’s 44th Dożynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8.
Christopher Byrd, the contest organizer, says the event “captures Buffalo’s love for food while celebrating our city’s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next. The contest draws people from all over Western New York. Buffalonians have an incredible passion for their homemade pierogi.”
This is the first time the contest is being held since the COVID-19 pandemic.
A group of judges will determine the winners of the contest. Winners in each category will walk away with the title of Buffalo’s Best Pierogi Maker and will be awarded the golden rolling pin. There are also awards for second and third place.
Corpus Christi Church was founded in 1898 and is located in the heart of East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia at 199 Clark Street. It is on the state and national lists of historic sites.
