SIXTH ANNUAL BUFFALO\u2019S BEST PIEROGI CONTEST<\/strong><\/p>\n

Contest Celebrates Buffalo\u2019s Passion for Pierogi!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Corpus Christi Church is once again looking for Buffalo\u2019s best pierogi.\u00a0\u00a0This historic east side church is hosting its sixth annual\u00a0Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi<\/em>\u00a0contest on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 4:30p.m. The contest is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.<\/p>\n

The contest has grown from fourteen contestants in its first year to last year\u2019s high of forty-three. Christopher Byrd, the contest organizer, says the event \u201ccaptures Buffalo\u2019s love for food and while celebrating our city\u2019s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next. Buffalonians have incredible passion for their pierogi.\u201d<\/p>\n

People who wish to enter the contest can online by visiting the church\u2019s website www.CorpusChristiBuffalo.org<\/a> or by contacting the rectory at (716) 896-1050<\/a>. The deadline for entries is Saturday, August 10, 2013.<\/p>\n

Applicants will be judged in one of four categories:<\/p>\n

Homemade Traditional<\/strong> – boiled or fried pierogi filled with cheese, cheese\/potato or kapusta (pickled or fresh cabbage) with or without mushrooms, carrots, etc.<\/p>\n

Homemade Non-Traditional<\/strong> \u2013 open to entrant\u2019s creativity, keeping in mind that a pierog is a stuffed pocket of dough.<\/p>\n

Commercial<\/strong> – open to any business using a traditional recipe.<\/p>\n

And new for 2013<\/strong>, Desert<\/strong> – pierogi made as a desert open to entrant’s creativity<\/p>\n

A group of celebrity judges will determine the winners for the contest.\u00a0\u00a0Winners in each category will walk away with the title of\u00a0Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi Maker.<\/p>\n

The contest will take place during Corpus Christi\u2019s 34th annual Do\u017cynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival on August 16, 17 and 18.\u00a0\u00a0This joyful commemoration, which dates to the middle ages, is the Polish equivalent of America\u2019s Thanksgiving holiday.<\/p>\n

Corpus Christi\u00a0Church was founded in 1898 and is located in the heart of East Buffalo\u2019s Historic Polonia.<\/p>\n
