FOURTH ANNUAL BUFFALO\u2019S BEST PIEROGI CONTEST<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Contest Celebrates Buffalo\u2019s Ethnic Heritage<\/em><\/p>\n

Buffalo, New York \u2013 Corpus Christi Church is looking for Buffalo\u2019s best pierogi by hosting its fourth annual\u00a0Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi<\/em>\u00a0contest on Saturday August 20 at 4:30p.m.\u00a0\u00a0The contest is open to all amateur cooks and businesses.<\/p>\n

The contest has grown from fourteen contestants to last year\u2019s high of thirty-five. Christopher Byrd the contest organizer says the event \u201ccaptures Buffalo\u2019s love for food while celebrating our city\u2019s rich ethnic heritage with recipes and traditions passed on from one generation to the next.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applicants will be judged in one of three categories:<\/p>\n

Homemade Traditional \u2013 boiled or fried pierogi filled with cheese, cheese\/potato or kapusta (pickled or fresh cabbage) with or without mushrooms, carrots, etc.<\/p>\n

Homemade Non-Traditional \u2013 open to entrant\u2019s creativity, keeping in mind that a pierog is a stuffed pocket of dough.<\/p>\n

Commercial \u2013 open to any business using a traditional recipe.<\/p>\n

Deadline for entries is Saturday, August 13.<\/p>\n

A group of celebrity judges will determine the winners for the contest.\u00a0\u00a0Winners in each category will walk away with the title of\u00a0Buffalo\u2019s Best Pierogi Maker<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The contest will take place during Corpus Christi\u2019s 32nd annual Dozynki (pronounced Do-ZHIN-kee) Polish Harvest Festival on August 19, 20 and 22.\u00a0This joyful commemoration, which dates to the middle ages, is the Polish equivalent of America\u2019s Thanksgiving holiday.<\/p>\n

Corpus Christi\u00a0Church is located at 199 Clark St. in Buffalo, one block east of the Broadway Market in the heart of Buffalo\u2019s Historic Polonia.\u00a0Applications for the pierogi contest and a complete listing of Harvest Festival events can be found on the church website at\u00a0http:\/\/dozynki.corpuschristibuffalo.org<\/wbr><\/a>.<\/p>\n
