Farewell to Brother Peter

sn850109

It is with great sadness that we inform you of Brother Peter’s reassignment to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. This transition will take effect on Monday, August 3, 2009.

Brother Peter has been an integral part of Corpus Christi Church for the past 5 ½ years. He has touched us with his reverence, deep faith, and love for Our Heavenly Father. Not only has he been a loyal assistant to our Pastor and fellow parish priests, he has also accomplished many wonderful transformations within the parish proper. Along with being the main influence behind the restoration of the convent chapel, he also remodeled our beloved Kolbe Center, put a brand new floor on the stage in the Sears St. Athletic Club, and updated the Rectory with gorgeous hardwood floors throughout. Perhaps his most ‘relaxing’ accomplishment was his care of the garden in backyard of the Rectory. It is without a doubt the most beautiful garden on the East Side of Buffalo!

Let’s get together to show Brother Peter our love and gratitude as we wish him well on his next journey.

Please join us as we bid farewell to our beloved Brother Peter on Sunday, August 2, 2009 after 11:30am Mass in the Sears St. Hall

Members of the Corpus Christi community including Father Anzelm and Father Matthew participated in the General Pulaski Parade on Sunday, July 19th which was part of the Polish Festival at Cheektowaga Town Park held this past weekend.

Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival

The 30th annual Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo will take place on August 22 and 23. This joyful celebration, which dates to the middle ages, is the Polish equivalent of America’s Thanksgiving holiday. In Poland, this event marks the end of the wheat harvest. At Corpus Christi, Dożynki is an opportunity to give thanks for all manner of blessings.

The heart of the Polish Harvest Festival is to bring people together in a spirit of gratitude and appreciation to God for all we have been given. The uniqueness of this celebration is expressed during the offertory procession during Sunday’s Dożynki Mass when a specially baked bread is presented along with a wreath made of grains and wildflowers along with other fruits of the land. Special liturgical music for the occasion will be performed during the Mass.

This year’s Dożynki Festival activites will offer a chance to enjoy homemade Polish food and drink, polka, classical and pop music, an opportunity to purchase handmade religious and folk items, participate in historic church tours, and take part in many other activities. The Dożynki Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered on Sunday, August 23 at 11:30A.M. The festival opens on Saturday, August 22 at 11:30 a.m. with the Farmers’ Market and Polish Cafe. Familiar as well as unique Polish food will be available both days. The sounds of Al Kania’s Polka Smile Eastern Style will fill the air on Saturday afternoon.
